Ethan Stiefel
American Ballet Theatre
When Ethan Stiefel made the major move from New York City Ballet to American Ballet Theatre in 1997, I remember thinking that he seemed a little cautious. Seven years later, he has become a megastar, constantly jetting around the world. In this his second appearance in The Arts Cure, he seems larger and even more beautiful, both physically and spiritually, than the last time I interviewed him. Every time I meet him I am struck by how healthy he is, not only as a dancer, but also as a human being. The Arts Cure is very pleased to bring you the refreshing voice of Ethan Stiefel in our Fall issue.

The group was founded in 1995 with only three members. While still studying mime, Junjun also began training in dance. Occasionally he gave solo performances, and he danced with choreographers such as Kim Ito. He wondered if he should quit mime. Then Onoderan and Momokon came to him with their ideas about starting to perform as a group. Sugapon joined them three years later. He had already left the mime school and was trying to perform by himself. He was actually considering becoming a rakugoka, or traditional comic storyteller. The group gave him this invitation: "Why don't you join us just for a one-time experience?" Obviously, it didn't end up being only one time!

Kazuo Ohno: A Child of All Time
Definitely more philosopher than dance teacher, the butoh artist Kazuo Ohno is one of the world's most celebrated and celebratory performers. Despite his 97 years, an ageless Ohno continues to grace the stage, and with each successive appearance persists in pushing the human body to its limits..
