Martha
Graham Dance Company
Coming Back to the Mainstream. . . .

Martha Graham Dance Company, the
tragic troupe that completely suspended its
activities for years because of a legal dispute
with the choreographers official heir after
her death, is finally coming back to City Center
this spring, where the company used to perform
every year. For not only the company members,
but
for those who love Grahams works and knew the
company in its prosperous days, the news is
very moving. I recently interviewed the companys
new Artistic Directors, Terese Capucilli and
Christine Dakin, who are also principal dancers.
It was extremely impressive to see them, obviously
hardly healed from the incident, trying to seriously
look forward and to move toward the future.
