Paul Taylor, Choreographer

One icy morning about a month prior to Paul Taylor Dance Company's 2003 New York season, I knocked at the door of a three story building located in SoHo. I heard a dog barking inside. I was expecting that a dancer or seceretary would open the door. However, when it was opened, the face I had seen only in newspapers or books was in front of me. Mr. Taylor warmly welcomed me into his house, took my coat, and intorduced his Black Labrador, Emma, to me with his soft voice. Receiving a cheerful greeting from Emma, I was let to Taylor's living room and to a sofa. Inside the glass box coffee table, I saw a lot of beautiful seashells, probably a part of his collection. Emma talked to me for a whie, with low voice through her nose, shaking her tail vigorously, then left the room, perhaps knowing her master was going to work.
