American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive Auditions: Feb. 12-13 in NYC
ABT will hold auditions for its annual Summer
Intensive training program in a nationwide tour of 21 cities,
which began January 8 and goes through February 21. Auditions
are open to male and female dance students aged 12-22 who are
at an intermediate or advanced level of ballet training. Summer
Intensives are held in New York City (June 20-July 29); Detroit,
Michigan (June 27-July 22); Tuscaloosa, Alabama (June 26-July
16); Austin, Texas (July 11-August 5); and Costa Mesa, California
(August 1-19). Students are eligible for any of the Summer Intensive
sites, wherever they audition, except students over 18, who
will be considered for the New York program only. Dancers aged
16-20 may also audition for ABT’s pre-professional, 12-member
Studio Company by notifying ABT officials at the time of registration.
A registration fee of $30 is required.
Summer Intensive curriculum may include, as well as daily ballet
class, classes in partnering, pointe work, nutrition, acting,
yoga, music, physical therapy, history, Pilates, jazz, character,
and modern. Faculty, made up of ABT artistic staff and alumni,
guest teachers, and accomplished pianists, has included ABT
Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie, Susan Jones, Johan Renvall,
Cynthia Harvey, Marianna Tcherkassky, Lupe Serrano, Leslie Browne,
Ted Kivitt, Magali Messac, and Kirk Peterson.
The New York City audition will take place Saturday, February
12, and Sunday, February 13, at 12:00 p.m. (ages 12-14) and
3:00 p.m. (ages 15 and up), at American Ballet Theatre, 890

Open auditions for performers,
musicians, designers, theater artists for Baby Cart at Armageddon

The Japan Society Performing Arts Program announces open auditions for Fred Ho's latest work,
in which he takes on Lone Wolf and Cub, the cult classic Japanese action film series from the 1970s inspired by Kazuo Koike's manga comic books series Kozure Ookami. Fred Ho and collaborator Ruth Margraff, whose other works include Night Vision: A New Third to First World Vampyre Opera (HERE Arts Center), Voice of the Dragon: Once Upon a Time in Chinese America...The Martial Arts Epic (BAM Next Wave Festival), and Voice of the Dragon 2: Shaolin Secret Stories (Apollo Theater), plan to create an hour-long samurai martial arts/music-theater work, combining state-of-the-art visual design and sword-fighting choreography. An excerpted work-in-progress showing is scheduled for April 29 and April 30, 2005 at the Japan Society.
Seeking:
Actors/singers with noh vocal abilities;
dancers/Asian martial artists; musicians who play shamisen, koto, fue or any other traditional Japanese musical instruments;
costume, scenic, make-up and lighting designers with special interest in manga stylizations;
any other artists with interest in traditional Japanese theatre and creative contributions to make to this process.
For the audition, prepare 3-min. presentation that demonstrates your abilities and your interest in the piece.
Japan Society will provide: TV monitor with VHS and DVD player, boombox with CD and tape player, self-amplified guitar speaker, microphone, and wooden dance floor. Any other needs are the auditioner's responsibility.

Ballet Tech School Hosts Open Auditions
Eliot Feld's Ballet Tech, the New York City
Public School for Dance, is holding open auditions this spring.
Since 1978, this unique school has served grades 4 through 12
by providing professional tuition-free ballet training in conjunction
with academic classes.
Audition will be held at the Ballet Tech studios at 890 Broadway,
8th floor (Broadway and 19th Street) in Manhattan. Interested
students are encouraged to pre-register with Ballet Tech via
phone prior to the audition date. No experience is required;
however students entering high school must have a minimum of
two years of ballet training.
Ballet Tech also holds auditions in public schools throughout
New York City in spring and fall. Last year, over 26,000 students
were auditioned and over 900 selected for tuition-free ballet
training. Schools interested in hosting auditions this spring
should contact Ballet Tech as soon as possible to participate.
